Honoring Hispanic Heritage Month

As the country celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month — September 15 through October 15 — Planned Parenthood Federation of America applauds the contributions of Hispanic Americans, particularly in the struggle to protect reproductive rights.

Planned Parenthood Los Angeles (PPLA) Promotora, Claudia Estrada Powell, kicks off a training for canvassers targeting Latina voters, urging them to support California’s Campaign for Real Teen Safety and to vote no on Proposition 85, a dangerous initiative that would put vulnerable teens in jeopardy.  Promotoras are health care outreach workers that rely on face-to-face communication and community outreach to share critical information about health and wellness.  Building on PPLA’s successful promotora program, canvassers train for outreach targeting Latina voters in East Los Angeles. This canvassing program will reach out to thousands of Latina voters, encouraging them to protect teen safety and vote No on Prop 85, in the month leading up to Election Day.
