A few weeks ago, a group of anti-choice extremists began quietly pushing President Bush to change regulations such that health care clinics will no longer receive family planning funds (also known as Title X funds) if they also provide abortion services or even information about abortion to pregnant women.
As a result, President Bush's secretary of health and human services has proposed rules that could eliminate Planned Parenthood's family planning funding. If these rules become final, they will effectively shut down access to family planning at many Planned Parenthood affiliate health centers across the country, locking out millions of women, men, and families from the only health care they can afford.
Today, President Bush and anti-family, anti-women extremists have put us in the fight of our life — the fight for the lives of millions of women, men, and families.
TAKE ACTION: SAVE PLANNED PARENTHOOD'S FAMILY PLANNING FUNDING
- Make an emergency contribution. Today's crisis requires as much as each of us can give to fight the rules and keep our affiliates' health center doors open.
- Tell President Bush what you think of his rules. We have a chance to overturn the rules: they can't go into effect until a 30-day public comment period has taken place.
- Spread the word. We need you to spread the word and raise an uproar that won't stop until these appalling new regulations are overturned.
- Learn more. Watch a video statement by Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Cecile Richards.
- Read Planned Parenthood's press release.
It is unconscionable that this president would place his politics over the lives of millions of people. At a time when millions of Americans are struggling with the soaring cost of insurance, the Bush administration wants to add yet another hurdle for low-income women seeking quality health care. It is unconscionable, and it is wrong.
