Back Up Your Birth Control

March 25 is Back Up Your Birth Control Campaign Day of Action, dedicated to increasing awareness of emergency contraception (EC) — the backup method of birth control that can prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex. Also known as the "morning after pill," EC can prevent an unintended pregnancy when started up to five days after unprotected intercourse. The sooner it’s started, the better — it reduces the risk of pregnancy by 75–89 percent when started within 72 hours.

In recognition of the Day of Action, Planned Parenthood produced a new video to raise awareness about EC, and to make sure people know EC is available at Planned Parenthood affiliate health centers throughout the country.

The 2008 Back Up Your Birth Control Campaign Day of Action is dedicated to making EC available to all women regardless of their income, insurance coverage, or immigration status.  You can help Planned Parenthood educate Americans about the benefits of EC — forward our video to your friends and join our e-mail list to stay informed.
