Aurora Health Center
On October 1, Aurora city officials confirmed what we already knew: Planned Parenthood had followed the law while constructing a health center to serve the Aurora community. The center, operated by Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area (PP/CA), was finally issued a permit to open and will be allowed to fulfill its intended purpose: to provide affordable reproductive health care to the women and families of Aurora and the surrounding communities.
Last month, in response to pressure from anti-choice protesters, the City of Aurora had denied a permit to Planned Parenthood while it conducted a legal review of the process that had allowed Planned Parenthood to build the health center. These protesters attempted to use the permit process as an excuse to block the health center from operating. The decision by city officials to grant PP/CA a permit to open is a victory for the women and families of Aurora.
"This is an important victory for the women in Aurora and surrounding communities who need to get the health care they want and deserve," Steve Trombley, president and CEO of PP/CA, told the Daily Herald.
