Latex condoms, in addition to offering protection against unintended pregnancy, also are the best protection against sexually transmitted infections for sexually active women, men, and teens. They are affordable, easy to use, and readily available over the counter.

Nevertheless, anti-choice extremists have attacked the effectiveness of condoms and discouraged their use, even though each year

  • half of all pregnancies in U.S. are unintended (3.1 million pregnancies are unintended)
  • approximately 750,000 teens become pregnant
  • an estimated 19 million people in the United States contract sexually transmitted infections
  • at least one in four teen girls has a sexually transmitted infection

Planned Parenthood is working in Congress, on college campuses, and in communities nationwide to ensure that young people and adults are told the truth about condoms and given medically accurate, age-appropriate information about how to protect against unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections.

Join the Planned Parenthood Action Network to stay informed about how you can protect your health!
