Title X (ten) is a federal grant program that provides comprehensive family planning services, including contraceptive methods and related counseling. Fertility awareness-based contraceptive methods (natural family planning) are included under Title X.
Other preventive health care services provided under Title X include:
- Breast exams and instruction on breast self-examination as part of an annual exam
- Pap tests for early detection of cervical cancer or precancerous conditions
- Screening and appropriate treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) as part of an annual exam
- Safer-sex counseling
- Referrals to specialized health care
By law, no Title X funds may be used for abortion services.
