We also know that it is not always easy for parents to talk with their children about sexuality issues. That is why Planned Parenthood of the Inland Northwest offers the following tools and programs to make these conversations easier.
- The Parent Packet: How to Talk with Your Kids about Sex
The packet gives parents an extensive amount of information and tools to help them communicate with their children about sensitive issues. It includes tips for parents, information on childhood sexual development, age-specific suggestions on how to handle difficult situations, and much more.
- Askable Parents, Teachable Moments
This session is designed for parents and professionals working with young children between 0-8 years-old. Participants learn about child development and age-appropriate sexual behavior and work together to identify strategies to solve problems and difficult situations.
- What’s Happening to Me?
This class is for parents and their 9 to 12 year-old children. Specifically designed to enhance parent/child communication about sexuality, the program creates a relaxed, yet professional atmosphere in which educators guide parents and kids through activities that stimulate conversation, clarify family values, establish rules and provide accurate information about the physical and emotional changes of puberty.
- Parents are Powerful!
This class helps parents of teenagers become more aware of the questions that teens have about sex. Parents learn how to become "askable," initiate conversations, set limits, and lay a good foundation for preventing unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections.
