Contact Your Elected Representatives

AN ADVOCACY "HOW TO..."

Contacting your legislators (state) or members of congress (national) is a great way to have your voice heard by speaking out about issues that matter to you.

Letters & Phone-Calls to Officials

  • Do address Senators and Representatives as "Senator Smith" or "Representative "Jones".
  • Do identify yourself as a constituent, taxpayer, voter, doctor, student, mother, teacher, etc.
  • Do include your full name, address, and phone number when you call or write.
  • Do include the bill number or name if you are writing about one.
  • Do use personal details or stories if possible.
  • Do call PPINW for help if you need it. We have fact sheets, statistics, and staff who will assist you or proofread.
  • Do call the legislator to follow up on the letter if you wrote one.
  • Do contact the Public Policy group at PPINW after you take action. We'll want to thank you! Call: 509-241-4156 or e-mail: ppinwadvocate@ppinw.org.
