Dr. Ruth Westheimer

Dr. Ruth is a psychosexual therapist who pioneered healthy communication and education about sex and our bodies. Since the 1980 debut of her radio program, Sexually Speaking, Dr. Ruth has helped spread “sexual literacy” to the masses as a now legendary, comedic sex therapist. Alderman Vi Daley (D-43)

Chicago Alderman Vi Daley (D-43) will be awarded with PPIL’s Richard J Phelan Profile in Courage Award for sponsoring and passing a “bubble zone” ordinance in the Chicago City Council that will protect patients, staff and volunteers from harassment and intimidation when they enter a health care facility. The Honorable Richard J. Phelan is best known for championing of women’s access to quality health care services during his tenure as Cook County Board President. PPIL created the Richard J. Phelan Profile in Courage Award to recognize those elected officials who have demonstrated courage in the face of adversity.

Cecile Richards

Cecile Richards is the president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Over the course of her career, she has become a nationally recognized progressive leader and a fierce advocate for reproductive health and rights. Since joining PPFA in 2006, Cecile has led Planned Parenthood to many significant achievements, including our success in ensuring FDA approval of over-the-counter status for emergency contraception. Prior to joining PPFA, Cecile served as founder and president of America Votes, a coalition created to maximize voter registration, education and mobilization among grassroots organizations. Cecile also worked as deputy chief of staff for Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, where she played a key role in the Congress member's election as the first woman Democratic leader of the House of Representatives.



Debby Herbenick, Ph.D.

Debby Herbenick Ph.D., is the author of Because It Feels Good: A Woman's Guide to Sexual Pleasure, a sexual health educator at The Kinsey Institute and a research scientist and Associate Director of The Center for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana University. In addition, Dr. Herbenick is a widely read sex colmnist, with regular columns in Time Out Chicago, Men's Health magazine and Psychology Today, among others. She has served as a sex expert on The Tyra Banks Show, the Today Show, Discovery Health and numerous radio programs.
