Congratulations to Jonathan McDonald!

Jonathan was chosen as the winner of PP Heartland’s “Get Tested” song lyric contest with his song “I Have an STD.”

   

 Here are some quick facts to get you thinking:
·         One in four women, between the ages of 14 and 19, has a sexually transmitted infection.^[1]
·         More than half of all people will have an STI at some point in their live.^[2]
·         “Adolescents and youth in their 20s are much more likely than older men and women to contract chlamydia and gonorrhea.”[^3]
·         Anyone who has had unprotected sex (not used a male condom, female condom or dental dam) should talk to their clinician about getting tested.
·         Many tests are as easy as a urine or blood test. Some HIV tests can even be done by swabbing the inside of your mouth.
·    “In most cases, infection does not have a major, lasting impact on an individual’s health if she or he seeks proper treatment.”^[4]
·     To reduce your chances of contracting a sexually transmitted infection (STI), follow the A-B-Cs. Abstain from sexual intercourse. Be faithful to your partner or limit the number of sexual partners you have if you’re not in a committed relationship. Use condoms consistently and correctly every time.^[5]
