OVERVIEW

• Held twice a year in Des Moines at the Iowa State Fair Grounds 4H Building.
• More than 400,000 items available at each sale in 45,000 sq. ft. of space.
• Free parking.
• No presales - so everyone has access to inventory at the same time.
• Shopping carts and baskets available.
• Holding area provided for large purchases.

ADMISSION
Opening night admission: $10 adults and $10 children
FREE admission all other days

GOAL
To raise funds for the support and expansion of the education and community outreach programs of Planned Parenthood of the Heartland.

ABOUT
Offered twice a year, the event is a book lover's paradise. Each sale offers more than 400,000 of books and related items, all categorized and individually marked. Books range from collectible "oldies" to recent best-sellers and include first editions and rare finds, plus CDs, DVDs, puzzles and posters. Customers return year after year (and day after day), many setting up chairs at dawn on the first day for the grand opening!

BOOK DONATIONS
Donations are received throughout the year from individuals, publishers, libraries, universities, colleges and other institutions. Over the course of the year more than 125 volunteers sort, price, pack, move and display the books. New volunteers are always welcome. VOLUNTEERING

During the Sale
Volunteers are needed to help with unboxing, checking out customers and straightening books. Shifts are three hours.

• Unboxing of all Book Sale items before the sale begins.
• The holding area calculates purchases for bulk buyers and accepts payment for purchases; lifting boxes is helpful but not required.
• The check out volunteers are placed in groups of two or three and help customers by running the calculator and taking payments. Training is provided.

Year-round
Our Book Sale would not be possible without the dedication of more than 100 year-round volunteers. Our year-round volunteers sort, price and pack books according to their category. Other year-round opportunities include picking up books and bringing them to the Jacqueline N. Blank Book Drop and helping organize the next sale as part of the Book Sale committee.
