Initial/Annual Exam

Initial Exams:  Examinations are provided by Clinicians and they involve a review of your health history, self breast exam, Pap/pelvic exam to evaluate for abnormalities in conjunction with your Pap test.  Initial exams also include a blood pressure check, screening for STDs, Hemoglobin level (iron level), weight, and urinalysis which assist the Clinician in providing you with the best possible services.  Initial exams are required prior to prescribing contraception methods.  However, if you are short on time, we offer deferred exams for up to 3 months with contraception pending the completion of your exam.

Annual Exams:  This is a yearly follow up exam by Clinicians providing the same services as an initial exam.

HOPE Exams: HOPE exams can be done only at our Women's Health Advantage Center.  HOPE is Hormonal Options Without A Pevic Examination.
To qualify for HOPE, you must not have:

  • certain conditions that make it inadvisable to use a hormonal method
  • symptoms that must be evaluated with a pelvic exam

What is needed for a HOPE exam? We will take your blood pressure and a brief history.  This should identify any increased risks you may have to these methods.  Further medical evaluation without a physical exam may also be needed.  Call Women's Health Advantage Center at (309) 685-3800 for more information.

All exams provide comprehensive education on family planning, STDs, and HIV.
