Abortion Services in Fayetteville, NC

Fayetteville Health Center offers the following services:

  • abortion pill (medication abortion)
  • in-clinic abortion
  • pre- and post-abortion patient education
  • post-abortion follow-up exams
  • referrals for other abortion services, as needed

Here’s what you need to know about abortion services at this health center:

Abortion Pill (Medication Abortion)

Abortion pill (medication abortion) is offered up to 8 weeks and 6 days after the start of your last menstrual period. If your last period was more than 9 weeks ago, read about our in-clinic abortion services below.

Abortion pill (medication abortion) services are available by appointment only.

During the abortion pill (medication abortion) visit, you must agree — before you start — that you will have an in-clinic abortion if the abortion pill does not work.

After your abortion pill visit, you will need access to a telephone, transportation, and backup medical care available to you once you are home.

In-Clinic Abortion

In-clinic abortion is offered up to 13 weeks and 6 days after the start of your last menstrual period. If your last period was after 13 weeks and 6 days, we can still help. Call us for a referral list of health care providers in your area that offer other abortion services.

In-clinic abortions are available by appointment only.

If you desire medication to help make your in-clinic abortion more comfortable, you must have a responsible companion with you to help you get home safely.

Other Abortion Services Information

If you take any medications, please continue to take these medications normally before your appointment.

During your visit, you may be given the following:

  • a pregnancy test
  • a chance to speak with a trained staff person about all of your choices: abortion, adoption, and parenting
  • a conversation with the health care provider about your health history
  • lab tests/blood work
  • a pelvic exam
  • an ultrasound
  • medications to make the abortion more comfortable
  • medication if you are Rh negative
  • antibiotics or other medications
  • birth control information
  • a birth control method
  • Effective October 26, 2011, due to NC Law, abortion services now require a 24 hour waiting period, an ultrasound, and state-mandated information. We will provide details when you make your appointment.

Contraceptive Options information is available at no additional charge at the time of your visit. Your desired method of contraception can be purchased the same day as your appointment.

If you are considering an intra uterine contraception (IUC or IUD), please mention this to our customer service specialist at the time you make your appointment. The IUC can be inserted immediately after an in-clinic abortion. Research indicates that IUC insertion after an abortion is both safe and practical, and offers several advantages- mainly, an immediate and effective long-term contraceptive method that adds relatively little additional time or discomfort to the procedure.

You should return in 2 weeks for a follow-up exam. We can schedule this with you during your visit.

At times there may be protesters outside of the health center. We suggest you avoid interaction with them. This health center offers escorts to walk you inside to your appointment.

The decision about whether to have an abortion or to continue a pregnancy is a private one for you to make in consultation with your family, partner, and doctor. Planned Parenthood offers all options counseling to give you the information you need to make a decision that is best for you, including information about adoption, abortion, and prenatal care.

If you find you are faced with an unplanned pregnancy, terminating your pregnancy is one option you have. We offer both the abortion pill and in-clinic abortions.

We have funding which allows us to offer a substantial discount on abortion services to those who qualify based on their income and family size. Pricing shown here does not reflect the discount. When making your appointment, the customer service representative will go over these options.
