Note: Closed on the following Tuesdays in 2013: February 12, April 9, June 11, August 13, October 8, December 10, and December 24. Health Center Services and Information
Free pregnancy tests by walk-in or appointment Tuesday - Friday 1:00 - 3:30pm; Saturday 1:00 - 3:00pm.
Emergency contraception for sale if aged 17 or over. Monday 9:00am - 4:00pm; Tuesday - Saturday 11:00am - 4:00pm. Under 17, by appointment.
Birth control refill pick-ups (for PPNYC patients only) on Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday noon - 4:00pm; Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday noon - 5:00pm. On days of pre-holiday early closure at 3 pm (August 30 and November 27), refill pick-up is available until 2:30pm.
All other services require an appointment. Although you need an appointment, you can get birth control, STD testing, and testing/treatment for urinary tract infections without having a medical exam.
If you have an appointment at a PPNYC health center for an IUD insertion, please read "What To Do Before Your IUD Insertion Appointment" and follow those instructions before you come in for your appointment.
Our health center is closed for the following holidays:

We do not provide childcare services. We request that you please make childcare arrangements.
If you are uninsured, you may qualify for a state-funded program or a lower fee scale.
We accept the following forms of payment:
- As payment, we accept cash, checks, money orders, major credit cards, and most health insurance plans, including Medicaid. For those who do not have insurance, on-site screening is available for health insurance (including the Medicaid Family Planning Benefit Program) and sliding-scale fees.

Some charges associated with your services may be covered by your insurance or a state- funded program. If you want to use your insurance, please be sure to bring in your insurance information at the time of your visit.

Abortion Services in New York, NY
Margaret Sanger Center offers the following services:
- abortion pill (medication abortion)
- in-clinic abortion
- sedation options (medication to make the abortion more comfortable)
- pre- and post-abortion patient education
- post-abortion follow-up exams
- referrals for other abortion services, as needed
- Abortion related counseling
Here’s what you need to know about abortion services at this health center:
Abortion Pill (Medication Abortion)
Abortion pill (medication abortion) is offered up to 9 weeks and 0 days after the start of your last menstrual period. If your last period was more than 9 weeks ago, read about our in-clinic abortion services below.
Abortion pill (medication abortion) services are available by appointment only.
Plan to be at the health center for 3-5 hour(s) for your entire abortion pill visit (medication abortion).
During the abortion pill (medication abortion) visit, you must agree — before you start — that you will have an in-clinic abortion if the abortion pill does not work.
After your abortion pill visit, you will need access to a telephone, transportation, and backup medical care available to you once you are home.
In-clinic abortion is offered up to 24 weeks and 0 days after the start of your last menstrual period. If your last period was after 24 weeks and 0 days, we can still help. Call us for a referral list of health care providers in your area that offer other abortion services.
In-clinic abortions are available by appointment only.
Plan to be at the health center for 4-6 hours for your entire visit for an in-clinic abortion.
If you desire medication to help make your in-clinic abortion more comfortable, you must have a responsible companion with you to help you get home safely.
If you are more than 16 weeks pregnant, your in-clinic abortion may require multiple visits.
If you plan to have sedation, please do not eat for 8 hours or drink clear liquids for 8 hours before your appointment.
If you have asthma, bring an inhaler if you have one.
Other Abortion Services Information
Please do not bring children with you to the health center.
If you take any medications, please continue to take these medications normally before your appointment.
During your visit, you may be given the following:
- a pregnancy test
- a chance to speak with a trained staff person about all of your choices: abortion, adoption, and parenting
- a conversation with the health care provider about your health history
- lab tests/blood work
- a pelvic exam
- an ultrasound
- medications to make the abortion more comfortable
- medication if you are Rh negative
- antibiotics or other medications
- birth control information
- a birth control method
- HIV and STI testing
At times there may be protesters outside of the health center. We suggest you avoid interaction with them. This health center offers escorts to walk you inside to your appointment.

Abortion services may be covered by your insurance. If you want to use your insurance, please be sure to bring in your insurance information at the time of your visit.
If you are uninsured, you may be eligible to receive financial assistance for your procedure. You can confidentially find out if you qualify by calling us at 212.965.7000. If you are eligible for financial assistance, you may be asked to bring documentation with you to the health center.
