By Metro
Blue/Orange Lines: Take the Blue or Orange Line to the Farragut West Metro station. Exit onto 17th Street and walk 2 blocks east to 16th Street. Turn left and walk two blocks north. The building is on the right between M and L Streets.

Red Line: Take the Red Line to the Farragut North Metro station. Exit onto L Street and walk 2 blocks east to 16th Street. Turn left and the building is the second on the left.

By Car
From Capital Beltway:
Take Exit 31B to Georgia Avenue. Follow Georgia Avenue for approximately 1 mile and take a right on 16th Street. Follow 16th Street for approximately 7 miles. The building is on the right between M and L Streets.

From Northern Virginia:
Take 66 East to 18th Street and turn left. Follow for several blocks and turn right on L Street. Take L Street for two blocks and turn left on 16th Street. The building is the second on the left.

Parking:
Street parking is limited and may be difficult to find. Public garage parking is available.

Wednesday: 12:30pm-3:30pm - Pregnancy Test, Rapid HIV Test, Asyptomatic Testing. Birth Control Pill pickups/Emergency Contraception(until 4:30pm)

Thursday: 12:30pm-3:30pm - Pregnancy Test, Rapid HIV Test, Asyptomatic Testing. Birth Control Pill pickups/Emergency Contraception (until 4:30pm)

All other services require an appointment.

If you need emergency contraception (morning after pill), you can walk in any time the health center is open.

This location is a full-fee health center. Full payment will be expected at the time of service. This location does not offer an income-based sliding fee scale. If you are uninsured and need financial assistance, please call our Appointment Center to schedule a time to visit one of our three health centers with available funding.

Appointment Information

Birth control refill pick ups are available During business hours with current prescription on file. Calling in advance will decrease wait time.

At this health center you can come in for appointments that do not require a medical exam. For example, birth control education and supplies; emergency contraception (morning after pill); pregnancy testing and counseling; STD testing; testing and treatment for urinary tract infections

We do not provide childcare services. We request that you please make childcare arrangements.

Children under the age of 13 are not allowed to wait unsupervised in the waiting area.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to check in and complete paperwork.

Women's Health Care in Washington, DC

Downtown Center offers the following women's health services:

  • checkups when you have a reproductive/sexual health problem
  • breast exams
  • cervical cancer screening
  • colposcopy
  • cryotherapy
  • fibroids evaluation
  • hormone replacement therapy
  • LEEP (treatment of abnormal pap)
  • mammogram referrals
  • menopause and midlife — testing and treatment
  • Pap test
  • sexual response education
  • urinary tract infections — testing and treatment
  • vaginal infections — testing and treatment
  • Other services we may provide include help with irregular periods or no periods, painful periods, painful sex, bleeding between periods, menstrual problems (premenstrual syndrome) or even a lost tampon.
  • PPMW offers Essure: permanent, non-surgical birth control. Please contact the health center directly for more information.

Women's health services are available:

  • on a walk-in basis: Walk-in services are available during all business hours based on patient volume.
  • during all business hours by appointment

Here’s what you need to know in preparation for a women's health visit at this health center:

Do not douche, have sex, or put anything in your vagina 24 hours before your pelvic exam. It is best if you are not having your menstrual period for some types of visits. Contact us if you have questions.

Checkups for gynecological concerns may require a pelvic exam.

For the testing and treatment of urinary tract infections, we will need to collect a urine sample at the time of your visit.

For the testing and treatment of vaginal infections, a pelvic exam may be required.

We offer education and treatment for menopause and midlife issues, including non-hormonal treatment(s).

Hormone replacement therapy requires a routine checkup or records of your current exam.

A Pap test is sometimes needed during a routine checkup.

Cervical cancer screening requires a pelvic exam and Pap test.

Prices and Payment Information

  • comprehensive (routine) gynecological exam visit - $115-200
  • problem-focused gynecological visit - $85-125
  • cervical cancer screening - $120-280

Some services may have additional charges for lab and blood work.

Abortion services may be covered by your insurance. If you want to use your insurance, please be sure to bring in your insurance information at the time of your visit.

Medicaid accepted.
