From the South:

Take 1-95 north and get off at exit 27 (downtown Bridgeport/ Lafayette Street). Go straight off the ramp, and stay to the right. At the 3rd traffic light, make a left turn onto Lafayette Street. At the 4th light, turn right onto State Street. Go up one block. The center is located on the corner of State and Broad Streets, across from the library.

From the North:

Take I-95 South and get off at exit 27 (downtown Bridgeport). At the end of the exit, make a right onto Lafayette Street. Stay on Lafayette until you come to State Street. Make a right onto State. The health center is located on the corner of State and Broad streets, across from the library.

From Route 8 and 25:

Get off at exit 2 (Fairfield Avenue) and keep straight off the ramp. Turn left at the third traffic light onto State Street. The health center is located on the corner of State and Broad streets, across from the library.

Health Center Services and Information

Walk-in Services

Birth control refill pickups, birth control services without a pelvic exam (if qualified), emergency contraception, pregnancy tests, rapid HIV tests (results in 20 minutes), and STD screening (no symptoms) for women and men are available on a walk-in basis up to one hour before closing.

If you need emergency contraception (morning after pill), you can walk in any time the health center is open.

Appointment Information

Birth control refill pick ups are available during business hours

At this health center you can come in for appointments that do not require a medical exam. For example, birth control education and supplies; emergency contraception (morning after pill); pregnancy testing and counseling; STD testing; testing and treatment for urinary tract infections

If you are coming in for an employment or school physical, please bring the required forms with you.

We provide educational materials specifically for people with developmental disabilities.

Specially trained staff and medical equipment are available for people with physical disabilities.

We do not provide childcare services. We request that you please make childcare arrangements.

Payment Information

Medicaid accepted.

If you are uninsured, you may qualify for a state-funded program or a lower fee scale.

Fees for services are based on your household income.

You will not be turned away because of your inability to pay.

Payment is expected at time of service.

Checks are accepted ONLY for gynecological services, and may not be used to pay for abortion services.

Bridgeport Center offers the following services related to the testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs):

  • STD testing, diagnosis and treatment, including:
    • bacterial vaginosis (BV)
    • chlamydia
    • genital warts
    • gonorrhea
    • herpes
    • HIV (testing and diagnosis only)
    • syphilis
    • trichomoniasis (trich)
    • Other STD testing, diagnosis and treatment services are also available. Please ask our staff for more information.
  • STD prevention, including:
    • condoms
    • HPV vaccine (Gardasil)
    • hepatitis B vaccine
  • STD/safer sex education

STD screening (no symptoms) for women and men is available on a walk-in basis during business hours.

Here’s what you need to know about STD testing and treatment at this health center:

We can test for gonorrhea and chlamydia using a urine sample. If this test shows an infection, then we will provide you with treatment and explain how your partner(s) can be treated.

For testing involving urine samples, including chlamydia and gonorrhea, do not urinate or engage in sexual intercourse for one hour before testing.

Rapid HIV testing can be done with a blood sample taken from a finger stick. The results are available in 10-40 minutes.

Counseling and anonymous (without your name) or confidential (private) testing for HIV are provided by trained staff who are sensitive to your needs and concerns.

Some STD tests may require a genital exam.

Children and adolescents younger than age 19 may qualify for the Vaccine for Children (VFC) program, which provides free vaccines. Other fees may apply.

Individuals ages 19 - 26 who have no health insurance and meet financial criteria may qualify for the Merck Vaccine Patient Assistance Program to receive the HPV vaccine (Gardasil) at no charge. Other fees may apply.

Some vaccines are given in a series over the course of several months, which would require you to return to the health center to get the full benefit.

Price ranges for our STD testing and treatment services and safer sex products are:

  • bacterial vaginosis testing and treatment - $49-$107
  • chlamydia testing and treatment - $41-$102 (Chlamydia and Gonorrhea)
  • gonorrhea testing and treatment - $41-$102 (Chlamydia and Gonorrhea)
  • herpes testing - $44-$112 (with outbreak); $109-$195 (no outbreak)
  • herpes treatment - $18
