Health Center Services and Information

Walk-in Services

Walk-in services: Free pregnancy tests by walk-in or appointment on Monday - Friday 12:30pm - 3:30pm. Emergency contraception for sale if aged 17 or over, Monday - Saturday, during this health center's regular hours. Under 17, by appointment.

All other services require an appointment.

If you have an appointment at a PPNYC health center for an IUD insertion, please read "What To Do Before Your IUD Insertion Appointment" and follow those instructions before you come in for your appointment.

Appointment Information

Birth control refill pick ups are available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm; Thursday 8:00am - 6:30pm; Saturday 8:00am - 3:30pm. No appointment needed for refills.

At this health center you can come in for appointments that do not require a medical exam. For example, birth control education and supplies; emergency contraception (morning after pill); pregnancy testing and counseling; STD testing; testing and treatment for urinary tract infections

We do not provide childcare services. We request that you please make childcare arrangements.

Abortion Services

Boro Hall Center offers the following services:

  • abortion pill (medication abortion)
  • in-clinic abortion
  • sedation options (medication to make the abortion more comfortable)
  • pre- and post-abortion patient education
  • post-abortion follow-up exams
  • referrals for abortion services
  • Abortion related counseling



    For in-clinic abortion, we offer the option of either local anesthesia or moderate sedation

Here’s what you need to know about abortion services at this health center:

Abortion Pill (Medication Abortion)

Abortion pill (medication abortion) is offered up to 9 weeks after the start of your last menstrual period.

Abortion pill (medication abortion) services are available by appointment only.

Plan to be at the health center for 2-3 hour(s) for your entire abortion pill visit (medication abortion).

During the abortion pill (medication abortion) visit, you must agree — before you start — that you will have an in-clinic abortion if the abortion pill does not work.

After your abortion pill visit, you will need access to a telephone, transportation, and backup medical care available to you once you are home.

In-Clinic Abortion

In-clinic abortion is offered up to 12 weeks after the start of your last menstrual period.

In-clinic abortions are available by appointment only.

Plan to be at the health center for 2-4 hours for your entire visit for an in-clinic abortion.

If you desire medication to help make your in-clinic abortion more comfortable, you must have a responsible companion with you to help you get home safely.

If you have asthma, bring an inhaler if you have one.

Other Abortion Services Information

Please do not bring children with you to the health center.

If you take any medications, please continue to take these medications normally before your appointment.

During your visit, you may be given the following:

  • a pregnancy test
  • a chance to speak with a trained staff person about all of your choices: abortion, adoption, and parenting
  • a conversation with the health care provider about your health history
  • lab tests/blood work
  • a pelvic exam
  • an ultrasound
  • medications to make the abortion more comfortable
  • medication if you are Rh negative
  • antibiotics or other medications
  • birth control information
  • a birth control method
  • HIV and STI testing

At times there may be protesters outside of the health center. We suggest you avoid interaction with them. This health center offers escorts to walk you inside to your appointment.

If you qualify, you may be able to receive certain birth control services without a pelvic exam.

Proper Attire™, Planned Parenthood’s exclusive line of condoms, is available at this health center.

Patient need not have an annual exam first. If she had an annual done elsewhere within the past year, she should either have records faxed over before coming in for the appointment, or bring in the records with her when she comes into the clinic for her appointment. If she can't bring in her records or hasn't had an annual within the past year, she may still get pills or the birth control shot for 6 months before needing an annual exam.

Emergency Contraception

Boro Hall Center offers the following emergency contraception (morning after pill) and related services:

Emergency contraception (morning after pill) is available at this location:

  • on a walk-in basis: Emergency contraception for sale if aged 17 or over. Monday - Saturday, during regular open hours. Under 17, by appointment.
  • during all business hours by appointment

Here’s what you need to know about getting emergency contraception (morning after pill) at this health center:

Emergency contraception is available over the counter for women and men 17 and older. If you can’t make it in to a Planned Parenthood health center, you may be able to get emergency contraception at a nearby pharmacy.

Women under age 17 can get prescription emergency contraception following a visit with a Planned Parenthood health care provider.

The copper IUD may also be used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected intercourse. Ask your health care provider for more information.

You may have a light meal before coming in for the appointment. You'll be in the center for at least 1 1/2 to 2 hours from the time you walk in.

Here’s what you need to know about HIV testing at this health center:

Rapid HIV testing can be done by swabbing the inside of your mouth or with a blood sample taken from a finger stick. The results are available in 20-40 minutes.

HIV testing is done by a blood draw. The results are available in 14 days.

HIV counseling referral services are available.

HIV treatment referral services are available.

Counseling and confidential (private) testing for HIV are provided by trained staff who are sensitive to your needs and concerns.

Results must be given in person.

Here’s what you need to know about getting pregnancy testing and services at this health center:

Our pregnancy tests are urine tests. We will only draw blood for a pregnancy test if it’s medically needed.

We have licensed counselors on staff and provide extensive and personalized options counseling services.

If you choose to continue a pregnancy, we will provide you with a list of resources to help you obtain prenatal care.

If you learn you are pregnant and decide to terminate the pregnancy, we will provide you with abortion services or refer you to an abortion provider.

Boro Hall Center offers the following services related to the testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs):

    • bacterial vaginosis (BV)
    • chlamydia
    • genital warts

    • herpes
    • HIV (testing and diagnosis only)
    • syphilis
    • trichomoniasis (trich)

Boro Hall Center offers the following women's health services:

  • breast exams
  • cervical cancer screening
  • colposcopy
  • cryotherapy
  • LEEP (treatment of abnormal pap)
  • mammogram referrals
  • Pap test
  • urinary tract infections — testing and treatment
  • vaginal infections — testing and treatment
  • Other services we may provide include help with irregular periods or no periods, painful periods, painful sex, bleeding between periods, menstrual problems (premenstrual syndrome) or even a lost tampon.

Women's health services are available:

Here’s what you need to know in preparation for a women's health visit at this health center:

Do not douche, have sex, or put anything in your vagina 48 hours before your pelvic exam. It is best if you are not having your menstrual period for some types of visits. Contact us if you have questions.

Checkups for gynecological concerns may require a pelvic exam.

For the testing and treatment of urinary tract infections, we will need to collect a urine sample at the time of your visit.

For the testing and treatment of vaginal infections, a pelvic exam may be required.

A Pap test is sometimes needed during a routine checkup.

Cervical cancer screening requires a pelvic exam and Pap test.
