Donation Q & A

How will my gift be used?
In general, gifts to PPGI go to work immediately to help support our services. Gifts that come from people living in the geographic areas surrounding our clinics throughout Iowa are used to support services at those centers. For example, gifts become the difference between providing a service or not when a given patient does not qualify for subsidized care and has no health insurance.

May I designate my gift for a specific purpose?
Yes. Simply make that designation known in writing, either in a letter accompanying your gift or on the memo line of your check. If you wish to designate your gift, please include information on how to reach you in case we have questions about your requested designation.

Doesn't the government support Planned Parenthood?
While we do receive some support from government and other funding sources, those funds are not adequate to meet our ongoing needs. Some government programs run out of funds weeks or months before the end of the grant year. Others are specific and restrictive in the services they will and won't support. Private gifts are the best way to fill these gaps.

Do you accept gifts of stock?
Yes! Contact PPGI's Development Office at 515.235.0405, for details.

Do you accept credit cards?
We gratefully accept your gifts through Mastercard, Visa or Discover.

Can I donate over the phone?
Yes! Please call our development office between the hours of 8:00 and 4:00 CST at 515.235.0406 to make a credit card donation over the phone.

Is my gift tax-deductible?
Yes, gifts made to Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa are tax deductible. In addition, a portion of your ticket price for some PPGI events also may be tax deductible--that information is usually included in your event invitation. Donations made to the Freedom Fund, PPGI's political arm, or to the Freedom Fund Political Action Committee, are not tax-deductible because of the political nature of the work those donations support.

Where can I drop off books that I want to donate to the Planned Parenthood Book Sale?
Drop off books at the Jacqueline N. Blank Book Works, 123 Clark Street in Des Moines. There are no hours of operation--books may be placed in the book drop 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Click here for more FAQ on book donations.
