About PPGI
Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa (PPGI) serves women and men of all ages in 85 Iowa counties and three counties in Illinois through 17 medical centers and an education and resource center, offering accessible, affordable reproductive health care and education as well as advocacy for health care, education and privacy issues.
An affiliate of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, PPGI is a mission-driven organization committed to providing individuals and families with quality health care and empowering people to make responsible choices about their health. Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa works to accomplish this mission through five primary departments: Education, External Affairs (including marketing/communications and development), Finance (including accounting and patient accounts), Governmental Affairs (including advocacy and legal) and Health Services.
In fiscal year 2006--2007, PPGI served 44,761 patients. We provided 33,446 well-woman exams, 13,276 pregnancy tests and 53,036 tests for sexually transmitted infections. PPGI distrbuted 187,882 contraception supplies (birth control) and 15,048 emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs/Plan B).
57 percent of our patients are ages 18 to 24; 33 percent are 25 to 44; eight percent are 17 or under; and two percent are over 45. Patient diversity is: White/non-Latino, 84 percent; White/Latino, 3 percent; Black/non-Latino, 5 percent; Black/Latino, less than one percent; Asian/Pacific Islanders, 2 percent; and Native American/Alaskan, less than one percent. Those who did not disclose ethnicity make up the remaining 6 percent of our patients.
About 10,512 participants were served through our state-wide community education programs. PPGI's educators conducted more than 559 education and training programs in fiscal year 2006--2007.
Public support for the agency amounted to about $3.4 million in fiscal year 2006--2007. Total income was $14.3 million, including $9.4 million from medical services revenue. Total expenses were $13.7 million, including over $5 million in charity care PPGI provided for uninsured or underinsured patients.
