Our 45 Year Time Line
1964: Esther Taylor gathers a concerned group of citizens to address the family planning needs of Atlantans and PPAA opens.
1972: PPAA wins Ad Club Award. Governor Jimmy Carter proclaims a Planned Parenthood Month. Miss Lillian Carter wins Margaret Sanger Award.
1973: Atlanta Lawyer Margie Pitts Hames argues Doe v. Bolton, a companion case to Roe v. Wade, giving women the legal right to abortion.
1979: Dr. William Mason, PPAA’s first Medical Director, wins the Alan Guttmacher award for dedicated service.
1982: Clinic and administration move to Edgewood Ave.
1984: Cobb Clinic opens, is firebombed, and then rebuilt.
1986: FIRST Line after-hours counseling line starts.
1987: Clinic opens in Lilburn.
1989: Marches held in D.C. and Atlanta. Kitchen Cabinet is created.
1990: Action Fund is started to engage in voter education and to mobilize pro-choice voters.
1995: Teen Action Group begins peer health education program.
1997: PPAA joins with East Central Georgia to form a state wide affiliate.
2000: Kudos for Kay Gala is held to celebrate Kay Scott’s 20th year with PPG.
2001: Emergency Contraception Connection wins award for innovation.
2004: March for Women’s Lives brings one thousand Georgians to join one Million in D.C.
PPG celebrated 40th Anniversary.
2005: Downtown Atlanta Health Center moves to Citizen's Trust Building.
2006: Congressman John Lewis honored with PPG's Living Legend Award.
2007: Mayor Shirley Franklin honored with PPG's Living Legend Award.
2008: TAG wins Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Award from Rollins School of Public Health and Goizueta Business School.
