Illinois Healthy Women Program
Planned Parenthood of East Central Illinois works to connect you with options to make your health care and birth control costs more affordable. The Illinois Healthy Women program has recently expanded and more women now qualify for free birth control and family planning services. You can apply for free services through Illinois Healthy Women at any PPECI Health Center.
What is Illinois Healthy Women?
Illinois Healthy Women is a program that is offered by the State of Illinois. The program helps women get the birth control services they want and need. It is voluntary and services are confidential and FREE to those who qualify.
What is the Pink Card?
The Pink card shows your health care provider that you have coverage for family planning services (birth control) under Illinois Healthy Women. If you already have a Pink Card, you have been automatically enrolled in Illinois Healthy Women. If you card is still current, you do not need to reapply. Rememberbring your Pink Card to all of your appointments at Planned Parenthood.
What services are covered? With this program, the following family planning and related reproductive health services are covered:
- Physical exam and health history
- Patient education and counseling
- Birth control
- Some lab tests necessary for family planning and birth control
- Pap tests
- Testing and medicine for sexually transmitted infections found during the family planning exam, including HIV testing (but not treatment)
- Mammograms ordered by a clinician
- Multivitamins and folic acid
Who is eligible?
Women who meet the following guidelines are eligible for Illinois Healthy Women:
- At least 19 years old and no older than 44
- U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
- Illinois resident
- No health insurance coverage for birth control
- Not currently pregnant
- Have not had tubes tied
- Have not had a hysterectomy.
You must also meet the program's income guidelines, which are based on family size and household income. Family members to be counted towards family size include your spouse and children under the age of 18 that are living with you.

How can I sign up?
You can sign up at any Planned Parenthood health center. You may be denied coverage under Illinois Healthy Women until all required documentation is received.
Please be sure to bring with you:
- One pay stub received within the last 30 days for each working person in your household (or if self-employed, 30 days of business records detailing income and expenses).
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship (U.S. Passport, Certificate of Naturalization, Certificate of U.S. Citizenship) OR one document from each of the following lists:

*You can get your birth certificate from the state or county where your were born. If you were born in Illinois, you can order a birth certificate online at www.idph.state.il.us/vitalrecords (you will need a credit card). For other states, visit www.cdc.gov/nchs to find out where to get your birth certificate.
Ask about Illinois Health Women and a Planned Parenthood staff person will help you to fill out the application and mail it in for you.
