CEs for teachers are offered for the following workshops:

Creating Safe Spaces: The ABCs of Being an LGBT Ally
January 12, 2012  1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.  FREE
140 E. Delaware Ave, Newark, DE 19711

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth are too often victims of bullying and harassment. One study found that middle school students hear anti-gay slurs every 14 minutes! By creating a safe space for LGBT youth, providers can give young people the support and validation they need to feel secure and included. This workshop will provide statistics on the health disparities of LGBT youth, help providers identify risk factors for bullying and harassment, and demonstrate techniques for combatting discrimination. Participants will gain practical strategies for creating a safe, accepting environment for LGBT youth.

Sex Ed, There’s an App for That?:  A look through the world of teens, sex & cyberspace
February 7, 2012  1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.  FREE
Milton Public Library
121 Union Street, Milton, DE 19968.

Teens have the ability to text, Tweet, and update their Facebook with only one touch of a button anytime, anywhere. This phenomenon exposes teens to more sexual images than ever before. The access to technology is inevitable, but what can providers do to protect youth from the potential consequences? This workshop will expose participants to the world of sex and tech, discuss how to communicate with youth about the issue, and uncover strategies to prevent the negative consequences of utilizing technology.
