Planned Parenthood of Central Washington believes that parents should be the primary source of sexuality education for their children. However, we understand how difficult it can be to start and continue open discussions of sex and sexuality with your child. Our Community Health Educators are available to teach parents how to facilitate that conversation with their children. Topical Packets are available to provide background information and statistics on a variety of topics including:

Are you uncomfortable with the idea of starting a conversation about sex with your child? Don't worry, this is completely normal. At Planned Parenthood our Community Health Educators are very familiar with this situation and are here to offer our help. To make the transition easier PPCW has for purchase three heart touching and medically accurate texts that you can use.
Let's Talk About S-E-X/ A guide for kids 9 to 12 and their parents This book provides parents with guided lessons to use while talking to children about sex and sexuality issues such as: puberty, emotions that accompany puberty, where babies come from, menstruation, sexual intercourse, childbirth, and heredity.

Period. A Girl's Guide is a straight forward sensitive approach to teaching girls about their menstrual cycles and the changes that accompany them. The medically accuarate book is easy for girls to ready by themselves, or can be used as a tool for communication between parents and daughters.

Words Can Work: When Talking With Kids About Sexual Health. This book was written to help parents understand their role as sexuality educators. Honest and open conversations influence children’s choices. In this book you will read stories of parents successfully gaining their child’s trust. This book can help you keep communication open with the young people in your life.
