Be a Grassroots Organizing Intern!
Do you love working with volunteers? Are you interested in learning more about the advocacy work PPCOH does? A community advocacy fellowship participant will tackle projects ranging from helping to manage PPCOH’s volunteer program to grassroots organizing in our communities. We need fellows who are energetic, fun and creative!
Description:
The Community Advocacy Fellowship participants will assist the Regional Field Organizer and Community Outreach Department at PPCO. In order to achieve Planned Parenthood's statewide, grassroots organizing and legislative goals, the Community Advocacy Fellows will recruit and mobilize volunteers while seeking new opportunities to build our supporter base on campuses and in the community. Serve to increase public awareness and support on Planned Parenthood’s advocacy issues including family planning, access to emergency contraceptives, comprehensive sex education and access to abortion.
Responsibilities:
• Recruits action network members, activists, and volunteers.
• Works on other grassroots efforts identified by the PPCO Regional Field Manager.
• Participates and recruits for volunteer phone banking, canvassing, visibility events, health fairs, trainings and other events as needed.
• Maintains awareness of local media and forwards relevant articles to Regional Field Organizer.
• Makes blog contributions, writes letters to the editor using Planned Parenthood talking points and monitors volunteer submission and publication numbers.
• Helps recruit and develop students and/or faculty members to form campus groups to be managed by the Public Affairs Department. Grooms new members into volunteer advocates.
• Assists in maintaining and growing PPCOH social networking sites.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
• Commitment to and/or experience with the pro-choice movement and belief in the mission of Planned Parenthood of Central Ohio
• Interest in political action, grassroots organizing, and movement building
• Current enrollment in any undergraduate or graduate degree program
• Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of projects simultaneously and to work independently as needed
• Outgoing, dynamic, and flexible personality
• Commanding verbal and written communication skills
• Access to transportation and ability to travel within the region
This fellowship may also be eligible for college internship credit. Please check with your advisor. This is an upaid internship opportunity.
Hours: Hours of internship and hours are negotiable, weekend and evening availability required.
