Education Programs

Planned Parenthood of Central Ohio’s Education and Training Department offers valuable Comprehensive Sexuality Education programs for your school, organization, or community-based group.

Our purpose is to prevent unintended pregnancy and HIV/STIs using curriculum materials that have been tested by the CDC and are known as the "Programs that Work". These programs have been researched, tested, and proven to reduce the risk in teen populations. They can be modified to meet your classroom/organization needs. All of our programs are age-appropriate and participant-sensitive, and reinforce abstinence as the best and safest decision.

To schedule one of these programs or for more information, please call (614) 358-8734, email us, or click on Program Requestor (on the left-hand menu).

Program Titles and Descriptions

A. Responsible Sexuality Education (extended program)
A minimum of 5 sessions; program age-appropriate for high school or middle school audiences.
Five class sessions (if classes are 40-50 min.) filled with opportunities to practice decision-making, beliefs clarification, and role-playing, as well as activities to increase students’ knowledge about sexual health. Topics covered include, but are not limited to: risky behaviors, abstinence, refusal skills, negotiation and communication skills, safer sex, birth control, teen pregnancy, HIV, and other STIs.

B. Survival 101: The Basics (3 day program)
Three-day age-appropriate program for middle school or high school participants (may be revised to meet your specific classroom needs)

Day One
The first component of the series is HIV prevention. Students are given information and asked to identify risk behaviors as well as determine how contracting HIV would affect their lives.
Day Two
Activities illustrate how quickly STIs are spread and how they affect people. Abstinence is defined and students discuss why abstinence is the best protection from HIV/STIs.
Day Three
The third component of the series is pregnancy prevention. Students learn what "contraception" means and what types of contraception are available. Abstinence is stressed as the best protection.

C. Baby Think It Over (parenting simulation)

Pregnancy Prevention Program
This opportunity is designed for school or community groups that would like to provide a culminating experience for their students at the conclusion of a unit on parenting or the responsibilities/consequence of a teen pregnancy. This program is effective when related to the benefits of abstinence.

  • The program requires obtaining permission and acceptance of financial responsibility forms from each participant’s parent or guardian.
  • The teacher picks up the simulators on Thursday, distributing them to students on Friday afternoon.
  • Students will have a parenting experience over the weekend and complete required assignments.
  • The simulators are returned to school on Monday and the teacher records data from the weekend.
  • The teacher accepts the responsibility of cleaning the simulators and their clothing before returning them on Tuesday.

To schedule a weekend with the simulators the teacher must attend and complete the Baby Think It Over training session before a request will be accepted.
