WOMENS HEALTH MATTERS:
Governor Christie Completely Eliminates Family Planning Funding From State Budget
Governor Christie has eliminated all state funding for family planning services effective July 2010. Unfortunately, without this funding services and hours must be reduced at our health centers effective mid September. Please call to confirm our hours for the services you need.
Last year, this funding helped health centers in New Jersey, like Planned Parenthood, provide basic reproductive health care services to over 136,000 women and men. These services include routine gynecological exams; basic contraception; screening for high blood pressure, anemia and diabetes; breast and cervical cancer screening and education; screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs); HIV testing and counseling; pre-pregnancy counseling and education; pregnancy testing and confirmation; and prenatal care and/or referral.
Despite this reduction in funding, PPCNJ is committed to continuing to provide quality comprehensive reproductive and health services to women and men in Central New Jersey.
For more information about the elimination of funding, to learn how your legislators voted, or to find out what you can do to help, please visit www.plannedparenthoodnj.org/whm/.
