Pediatric Program
Our pediatric program focuses on the needs of thousands of families who would have no other access to comprehensive healthcare for their newborn babies, and no options to provide healthcare to those babies as they grow from toddlers into elementary school age and young adulthood. Pediatric services concentrate on preventive health care through immunizations and early periodic screening for hearing, vision, speech, physical and social development for children/young adults through age twenty-one. In addition, the program provides nutrition and parenting education for parents.
The younger a child is when he or she gains access to quality pediatric care, the more likely that child will keep up with his or her age group in social development and cognitive skills. Without access to healthcare, children lag behind their peers in development and learning. They are unable to concentrate in school and have problems participating in social and physical activities. The child's health suffers and the resources needed to repair the damage can be a burden to already overstretched state budgets, communities, and, most tragically, the family.
