Depo-Provera
If you choose Depo-Provera, your clinician will give you a shot every 12 weeks.
The Shot uses a hormone similar to the progesterone made by a woman's ovaries to:
- usually, prevent the ovaries from releasing an egg (ovulation)
- less often, thicken cervical mucus to prevent sperm from joining egg

Depo-Provera is not effective against sexually transmitted infections. You will need to use latex condoms to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections..
