Menopause is the time in a woman's life when she stops having menstrual periods. Today women can expect to live one third of their lives after menopause. The average age for menopause is 51. However, perimenopause may begin as early as age 35.
Planned Parenthood of Alaska (PPA) urges you to educate yourself, stay informed and plan ahead for this time of challenges and opportunities, because it could be one of the most rewarding and enriching times of your life.
To function at your best, you should:
- exercise regularly
- eat a balanced diet that contains enough calcium
- consider hormone replacement therapy
- visit your health care provider for routine checkups
