HIV/AIDS Testing & Counseling
Planned Parenthood of Alaska offers confidential HIV testing services at all four clinics.
HIV is the virus which causes AIDS, a serious disease which affects the body's immune system and reduces the body's ability to fight infection. The virus is spread by contact with infected bodily fluids such as blood, semen, and vaginal discharge.
HIV testing is done with either a traditional blood-draw test--with results available in 7-10 days--or by using the Oraquick ADVANCE Rapid HIV Test--a confidential oral swab test that provides accurate results in 20 minutes. OraQuick gets the results in 20 minutes so that you do not have to schedule a follow-up appointment. OraQuick also does not require phlebotomy (blood draw) for the sample.
Testing services include pre-test and post-test counseling and education opportunities. The visit usually lasts about an hour.
Since 1916, Planned Parenthood has upheld the right to privacy in human relationships.
