Birth Control: Pills, Condoms, Depo-Provera, etc
Every year, 85 percent of women aged 15–44 who don’t use birth control during vaginal intercourse become pregnant. Although the only guarantee against unintended pregnancy is to not have sex, using birth control can reduce your risk of pregnancy from vaginal intercourse.
How To Get Started on Birth Control
At Planned Parenthood of Alaska (PPA) clinics, you can get started on a hormonal method without having a pelvic exam and pap test first through a program called bcNOW. We encourage you to be tested for infections and early signs of cancer, but if you do not have time or are not ready yet, we will provide you with the contraception you need now.
What We Offer
PPA clinics have a variety of oral birth control pills, the patch (Ortho Evra), the ring (Nuva Ring), sub-dermal implant (Implanon), Intrauterine Devices (IUDs), the shot (Depo-Provera), diaphragms, as well as female and male condoms. We can also help make referals for permanent birth control such as tubal ligations and Essure.
To get more information about birth control options click on 'Birth Control & Pregnancy' in the upper left side of this page.
To find the closest PPA clinic use the 'Find a Health Center' toolbar above, or call 1-800-230-PLAN. Some methods of birth control must be started at certain times in a woman's menstrual cycle to be effective, but we can always provide you with condoms to use right away!
