Statement by Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, on Florida Gov. Charlie Crist Vetoing HB 1143

“The Planned Parenthood Federation of America applauds Florida Governor Charlie Crist for putting common sense ahead of ideology and vetoing HB 1143, which would have mandated that every woman seeking an abortion in Florida undergo an ultrasound of her fetus.

“Floridians and Governor Crist objected to this extreme bill because it would have given the government the green light to interfere in the most private, personal medical decision a woman might ever make in her life.

“Gov. Crist demonstrated sound leadership by understanding that women must be trusted to make private personal medical decisions in conjunction with their physicians, loved ones, spiritual advisers, and others they trust.”
