Planned Parenthood Supports the Global Sexual and Reproductive Health Act of 2010
WASHINGTON, DC — Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) applauds Congresswoman Yvette Clarke for introducing the Global Sexual and Reproductive Health Act of 2010, a critical piece of legislation that creates a framework for U.S foreign assistance for family planning and reproductive and sexual health.
The Global Sexual and Reproductive Health Act of 2010 would strengthen U.S. engagement in reproductive health issues around the world. It would provide increased support for international reproductive health programs, assistance to prevent unsafe abortions, funds for reproductive health services during emergencies such as the recent earthquake in Haiti, and promotion of reproductive health care for adolescents and young people, including sexuality education, monitoring and evaluation.
“We laud Congresswoman Clark and we are proud to support the Global Sexual and Reproductive Health Act of 2010, which champions the reproductive and sexual health needs of women, girls, and young people around the globe,” said PPFA President Cecile Richards. “No matter where they live, women and young people must have access to preventive and reproductive health care and education, so they can make responsible, healthy decisions that empower them to achieve great things in their lives. Congresswoman Clarke’s leadership in this area will help turn these goals into a reality for millions worldwide.”
Planned Parenthood Federation of America will work to support the Global Sexual and Reproductive Health Act of 2010 and ensure its adoption.
