Speaker Boehner’s Budget Control Act would drastically harm the country’s health care safety net by significantly undermining Medicaid, which currently serves 60 million Americans.

“As a trusted health care provider to millions of women, Planned Parenthood knows firsthand the importance of Medicaid in ensuring access to health care for those who need it the most.

“Medicaid provides access to important primary and preventive care to millions of Americans, who otherwise would go without health care.

“Medicaid is fundamental to improving the health of American women. It is an essential source of birth control, cancer screenings, and annual exams, which are vital in keeping women and their families healthy.

“Speaker Boehner’s Budget Control Act of 2011’s impact on Medicaid would have a devastating effect on families across the country, result in poor health outcomes and more people getting sick, and lead to increased health care costs.

“Planned Parenthood urges the Senate to reject the Budget Control Act of 2011 and protect Medicaid.”
