LAURIE RUBINER APPOINTED VP FOR PUBLIC POLICY AND ADVOCACY AT PLANNED PARENTHOOD FEDERATION OF AMERICA
Women’s Health Care Leader with More Than 25 Years of Bipartisan Experience In Washington
WASHINGTON, DC — Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) today announced the appointment of Laurie Rubiner as vice president for public policy and advocacy. Rubiner will serve as a key member of PPFA’s senior management team, leading the operations in the Washington, DC, office, and overseeing the organization’s public policy and grassroots organizing and political outreach. As a recognized leader in the women’s health community, Rubiner has a wealth of experience in health care policy and government, and more than 25 years of bipartisan experience working on Capitol Hill.
“Laurie is one of the leading voices in health care reform, having dedicated her career to improving the health and safety of women and families across the country,” said PPFA President Cecile Richards. “We are delighted she is joining the Planned Parenthood family.”
Rubiner comes to PPFA after serving as legislative director for Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), where she led the senator’s policy staff. In this role, she was a key member of the team that developed Sen. Clinton’s health care reform proposal for her 2008 presidential campaign. Rubiner was responsible for directing Clinton’s policy agenda and legislative strategy and developing new initiatives.
“This is a critical time for health care, and women have much at stake in the debate,” said PPFA Vice President for Public Policy and Advocacy Laurie Rubiner. “I am honored to be joining such a dynamic team led by Cecile Richards who will be ensuring that women's health and wellness needs are met.”
Prior to working with Sen. Clinton, Rubiner directed health care policy and health insurance issues with both the New America Foundation and the National Partnership for Women and Families. For nearly a decade, she served as the legislative assistant and senior policy advisor to the late Senator John Chafee (R-RI). In this capacity she worked on several issues of interest to PPFA, including the Title X Family Planning Amendments of 1989, which provided federally funded family planning clinics the ability to inform pregnant women of all their health care options, including abortion. She was most recently with Malaria No More, an organization devoted to ending deaths from malaria, one of the leading killers of children in Africa.
Rubiner is a graduate of Barnard College and has a law degree from Georgetown University.
