Scarlett Johansson, Connie Britton, Mamie Gummer, Alan Cumming, Julianne Moore, Rachel Bilson, Sarah Silverman, Jane Fonda, Gabrielle Union, Cynthia Nixon, Gabourey Sidibe, Dana Delany, Aisha Tyler, Kathleen Turner, Jason Alexander and Other Artists Stand Up to Defend Women's Health and Planned Parenthood

Scarlett Johansson, Alan Cumming, Julianne Moore, Rachel Bilson, Gabrielle Union, and more than 40 other leading artists from the entertainment industry are standing up to defend Planned Parenthood from extreme proposals in Congress that take away preventive health care and family planning services from women.

"Every year, Planned Parenthood provides essential preventive health care to millions of women, men, and teens," said Johansson, best known for her leading role in the Oscar-winning film Lost in Translation. “For many people Planned Parenthood is their only source of health care. Let your members of Congress know where you stand. Go to IStandWithPlannedParenthood.org. Sign the petition.”

The anti-choice House leadership in Congress has introduced various pieces of legislation that attack women’s health, including a proposal to bar Planned Parenthood from providing health services through federal health programs like Medicaid, as well as the elimination of the national family planning program (Title X).

Now, as thousands of people get ready to descend on Capitol Hill for the Stand Up for Women’s Health Rally on April 7, artists are using their talent to fight back. They’re recording videos, authoring articles, appearing at events, using social media, and lending their names and images to the IStandWithPlannedParenthood.org website. They’re also joining hundreds of thousands of people who have signed an open letter to Congress, urging the House leadership to stop this assault on women’s health and rights.

"These artists have the power to shine a light on this outrageous attack against women’s health," said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. "They’ve gone above and beyond to help us at this critical moment, when an extreme minority is hijacking the budget process to advance a narrow ideological agenda.”

Each year, Planned Parenthood health centers provide basic preventive health care to three million people, most of them women. The measures being pushed by the extreme right in Congress would shatter the nation’s family planning infrastructure and take away many women’s current access to lifesaving cancer screening, annual exams, STD testing, and other basic health services. “Planned Parenthood stands for women's health, plain and simple,” said Rachel Bilson. “That's why I stand with Planned Parenthood.”
