The 2011 Walk for Choice Ohio attracted hundreds of attendees to Columbus on February 26th as individuals from across the state showed their resistance to the latest Republican-led assaults against reproductive freedom. Organized on short notice by Columbus-based activists, the Walk materialized out of social networking and word of mouth efforts. A Facebook page created for the Walk indicated at least 599 committed attendees, though an official headcount is not available. The Walk was held as part of a nation-wide movement intended to convey support for pro-choice action. Attendees cited numerous reasons for their participation, though Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and Title X proved to be a common theme.
