[Plattsburgh, NY] - Northern Adirondack Planned Parenthood (NAPP) is sponsoring the Cyndi Topnick Mother/Daughter retreat on Friday, August 15 from 8:30am until 4pm at the Wild Center in Tupper Lake.  The retreat aims to improve communication about sexuality between mothers and their daughters, ages 9-12, and to help the daughters understand the changes of puberty and the responsibilities of womanhood.

Mothers participating in the retreat will increase their knowledge of adolescent development and comfort level with talking about sex with their daughters.  They will gain a better understanding of the changes their pre-teen is experiencing.  Daughters will improve their ability to talk with their mothers about sex, as they explore the changes they are experiencing.  The younger participants will learn to see their mothers as a reliable source of information for their questions.

The 2008 Mother/Daughter Retreat is made possible by a grant from the Glenn & Carol Pearsall Adirondack Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the quality of life for year-round residents of the Adirondack Park, and by an Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Community Health Award.

The cost of the retreat is $5 per mother/daughter pair and includes a continental breakfast, lunch and snacks, a resource book, brochures, and gift bag.  To register or obtain additional information on the mother/daughter retreat, call Northern Adirondack Planned Parenthood's Sexual Health Educators at 518.825.6277 ext. 104.  Space is limited.
