EASTERN WASHINGTON AND NORTH IDAHO – On January 1, 2010, Spokane-based Planned Parenthood of the Inland Northwest (PPINW) and Yakima-based Planned Parenthood of Central Washington (PPCW) merged to become Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho (PPGWNI). The new affiliate currently has 9 clinics in Cheney, Ellensburg, Kennewick, Pullman, Spokane, Spokane Valley, Sunnyside, Walla Walla and Yakima with administrative offices in Kennewick, Spokane, and Yakima.
With tough economic times and the health care crisis, it has become even more challenging to provide high- quality health care. The boards of PPCW and PPINW agreed that merging would allow the organizations to continue providing care to those most in need of services. As one stronger organization, PPGWNI is better positioned to serve the women and men of rural Idaho and central and eastern Washington. Like many non-profits and healthcare agencies throughout the country, PPGWNI will use this merger to develop improved systems and processes to provide better services for over 40,000 patients. Specifically, this merger will increase efficiencies and improve the delivery of medical services. The merger will result in a centralized and more efficient call center and billing department, and the capacity to open or significantly remodel 6 sites in the next 2 years. The merger will also result in the expansion of services throughout our rural geography.
A combined board governs PPGWNI with representatives from the former PPINW and former PPCW. The President & CEO is Anna Franks, former President & CEO for PPCW and, previously, Planned Parenthood of Alaska. She oversees a staff of 140 doctors, nurses, administrators, educators and advocates who are passionate about empowering people to make responsible decisions and take charge of their lives.
“The health of our patients continues to be our number one priority,” said Anna Franks, President & CEO of PPGWNI. “Throughout all the communities we serve, we will provide the best possible services to the women and men who rely on us. This merger presents significant possibilities for increasing the breadth and depth of the quality reproductive health care services Planned Parenthood has always provided. This translates into better outcomes for our patients, more comprehensive services and a renewed focus on fulfilling our mission.”
PPGWNI is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization with health centers located in Ellensburg, Kennewick, Pullman, Spokane, Spokane Valley, Sunnyside, Walla Walla and Yakima as well as express health centers in Cle Elum Colfax and Wapato. PPGWNI exists to assure that all people are empowered to make reproductive health choices and have access to the quality healthcare and sexuality education services required to exercise those choices.
