“We are disappointed that the State of South Dakota has chosen to appeal the District Court decision in PPMNS v Rounds,” said Kathi Di Nicola, spokesperson for Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota.
“In this time of fiscal crisis, it’s disconcerting that the state of South Dakota continues to pursue an expensive court battle that will not prevent even one unintended pregnancy, will not reduce the need for abortion and puts the government squarely between women and doctors,” said Di Nicola.
“For two consecutive years, voters in South Dakota have rejected this type of government intrusion into the personal medical decisions of women and families. We are dismayed that the state continues to pursue it at taxpayer expense,” Di Nicola said
“We believe that the district court was right to find that the issues the state is appealing require us to give false and misleading information to our patients and are unconstitutional. We are confident that the 8th Circuit Court will agree,” said Di Nicola.
“We look forward to returning our focus to the heart of our mission-ensuring women and families in South Dakota have access to high quality comprehensive reproductive health care,” said Di Nicola.
For more than 80 years, Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota has worked in our region to make sure all people have the information and the means to make free and responsible decisions about whether and when to have children. Planned Parenthood operates 27 clinics in Minnesota and South Dakota, providing quality and affordable family planning, reproductive health care services and education to more than 60,000 women and men each year.
