(Plattsburgh, NY)—Sexual Assault Services of Northern Adirondack Planned Parenthood (NAPP) will hold a Certified Rape Crisis Counselor (CRCC) training in September. CRCCs answer the Sexual Assault hotline and accompany survivors of sexual assaults to the hospital.  Once volunteers have completed the training 30-hour training, they will be scheduled to answer the Sexual Assault Hotline.

In order to provide hotline counseling or accompaniment services, the New York State Department of Health requires CRCCs to complete a 30-hour training, followed by shadowing experiences, supervision, and continuing education (for a total of 10 additional hours within one year of certification).  The 30-hour course begins on September 26 and will be held over several evenings and one weekend day.  Attendance at all sessions is required.

Participation in the training requires a pre-training interview and a commitment by the participant to volunteer to provide hotline coverage and/or accompaniment services after regular business hours.  CRCC volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Sexual Assault Services at (518) 825-6277 ext. 108 by September 12, 2008.
