The following is a statement from Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota President and CEO Sarah Stoesz on the appointment of Scott Leitz as MNsure’s Interim CEO.

Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota (PPMNS) strongly supports the appointment of Scott Leitz as MNsure’s interim Chief Executive Officer. Planned Parenthood actively promoted adoption of the health care reform measures passed by the Legislature last spring. We believe Scott Leitz, with his public service track record, administrative experience, and health insurance expertise, will bring strong and effective leadership to MNsure.

Scott Leitz has an extraordinary depth of knowledge about public and private health insurance. He has always been direct, honest and approachable as we’ve worked with him to address the needs of our patients. Scott has managed large and complex organizations and knows how to get results. We are confident that under Scott’s leadership Minnesota’s health insurance marketplace will thrive. Many of our nearly 70,000 patients have the opportunity to access affordable health insurance for the first time in their lives, so we know how important MNsure is to women and families in our state.

For women, the Affordable Care Act is the greatest advancement in a generation. For the first time – being a woman is no longer a pre-existing condition. For the first time – everyone is guaranteed basic, preventive health care. For the first time – prenatal care, mammograms, annual exams, cancer screenings, and birth control are fully covered. As the leading women’s health care provider and advocate, Planned Parenthood is uniquely positioned to communicate with women about the ACA. Planned Parenthood’s Navigators are hard at work helping people understand the new health care law and how to access insurance through MNsure.

Planned Parenthood is proud that Minnesota passed legislation to fully implement the Affordable Care Act by creating MNsure and by expanding state health care programs for low-income people. We fought hard for health reform, and it is important that its promise be realized. We look forward to working with Scott Leitz to insure the success of MNsure.
