Celebrate Women's History Month with movies and more!

Enjoy free films dealing with women's history along with discussion, displays and refreshments in March. Each film will be shown at 2:00 on a Sunday afternoon at the Main library, 215 East 3rd Street in downtown Dayton. Come at 1:30 to mingle and enjoy the displays, then stay after the film for discussion. 

 

A League of Their Own

 Sunday, March 8 at 2:00 pm

 The story of players in the All American Girls' Professional Baseball League during WWII directed by Penny Marshall with Geena Davis, Madonna, and Rosie O'Donnell. Following the film, join a discussion with women who participated in that era as well as contemporary women in sports, the Gem City Rollergirls. 

 

Iron Jawed Angels 

Sunday, March 15 at 2:00 pm

A dramatic portrayal of the struggle for women's right to vote, focusing on Alice Paul (Hilary Swank) and Lucy Burns (Frances O'Connor). After the film, discover connections with local suffrage activity with Doramae O'Kelley, author of Courageous Optimism: Montgomery County , Ohio and the Pursuit of Votes for Women

 

 Frida

Sunday, March 22 at 2:00 pm

Chronicles the bold and uncompromising life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, a political, artistic and sexual revolutionary. Enjoy art work and discussion with local women artists following the film.
