Seattle—Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest (PPGNW) is elated over raising $195,000 through the Seattle Foundation’s “GiveBig” Day on May 2.  PPGNW received the highest number of individual donations – 1,217 unique gifts—of over a thousand participating organizations.

“GiveBIG” is the Seattle Foundation’s gift to the nonprofit community.  The 24-hour online campaign allows supporters to donate to nonprofits across the Northwest.  The gifts are then increased with a portion of the Seattle Foundation’s stretch pool.  In addition to that, three donors offered dollar-for-dollar challenge grants totaling $62,500 to encourage support of PPGNW specifically. PPGNW’s $195,000 will become over $260,000 with the stretch pool and challenge grants.

“We couldn’t be happier or more grateful to our generous community,” said Liz Reilly, Director of Development at PPGNW.  “An army of supporters sent a clear message to those who would ‘get rid of’ Planned Parenthood that birth control is just as essential to improving lives as books and the arts. This outpouring of support couldn’t have come at a better time, as funding cuts have recently forced us to close three health centers. These gifts will enable PPGNW to provide a wide range of preventive health services – including life-saving cancer screenings, birth control, prevention and treatment of STDs, breast health services, pap tests, sexual health education, and more—to all who need this essential care.”

According to Reilly, PPGNW brought in three times as many gifts as last year, and nearly three times the money.  Hundreds of these gifts came from people who have never given to the organization before.  “Thank you to everyone who gave to PPGNW that day, our amazing volunteers for getting the word out, and The Seattle Foundation for organizing an incredible day of giving that benefits our entire community.”
