Portland, OR – The Kresge Foundation today announced the pledge of a $750,000 challenge grant toward Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette’s (PPCW) capital campaign to build its new Regional Service Center. The Kresge Foundation is a national, private foundation that seeks to influence the quality of life for future generations by creating access and opportunity in underserved communities, including improving the health of low-income people. With the Kresge Foundation pledge, PPCW has raised more than $9.4 million toward its $12.5 million capital campaign goal. The Kresge Foundation grant comes just as PPCW celebrates the groundbreaking of the project this week.

“We’re delighted that the Kresge Foundation is contributing toward our Regional Service Center project,” said David Greenberg, PPCW President and CEO. “Support from national foundations, combined with our local donors and supporters, will enable us to expand our reach and offer basic health services and education programs to even more people in Oregon and Washington.”

“We applaud PPCW’s continued efforts at expanding reproductive health services to your region’s vulnerable residents,” said Rip Rapson, President and CEO of the Kresge Foundation. “The new facility clearly responds to significant community needs.”

Much of the Kresge Foundation’s work focuses on health, education, human services and community development. Their Health Program seeks to influence and assist communities in the creation of healthy living environments for disadvantaged populations. In 2007, the foundation awarded 283 grants totaling $178.5 million. The majority of awards were made to nonprofit organizations in the United States.

Construction on PPCW’s Regional Service Center begins this fall and is expected to be completed late next year. The Regional Service Center will be located in Portland at NE Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Beech Street, and will house all of PPCW’s administrative staff and a new, state-of-the-art health center. The environmentally-friendly building will provide 5,000 square feet of retail space and bring as many as 140 jobs to the neighborhood.
