Portland, OR — Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette (PPCW) is urging the Portland Development Commission to approve a proposal that will bring Planned Parenthood’s new Northeast health center and administration office to a site along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The PDC is set to vote on the project on April 11, 2007.

“We urge Portland Development Commission to approve our proposal, which will provide additional women’s health care services to the area and add economic growth to the neighborhood,” stated David Greenberg, CEO of Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette.

PPCW’s proposal includes construction of a new health center and regional administration office. The health center will provide a wide range of health care services, including low-cost contraceptives, annual gynecological check-ups, breast exams, cervical cancer detection and treatment, testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy testing and other services. The administration office will include fundraising, finance, education, public affairs, and a central patient call center. PPCW expects to relocate approximately 100 jobs to the new site with additional growth planned over the next five years.

PPCW has a long history of service in Northeast Portland and board members and staff have been reaching out to community leaders and residents to talk about the proposal and what it means for the community. Over the past several months, PPCW CEO David Greenberg and Board Member Anthony Lincoln have talked with more than 25 leaders in the community, many of whom have expressed strong support for Planned Parenthood and the proposed relocation to Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.

“Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette has been one of our strong community partners. With a shared vision of increasing access to reproductive and sexual health services and increasing prevention efforts, we have worked jointly on prevention projects and we welcome them to the community,” stated Lillian Shirley, Director, Multnomah County Health Department.
