Austin, Texas — Planned Parenthood of the Texas Capital Region is preparing to celebrate the successful completion of a $6.6 million capital campaign called The Choice Project. The campaign, launched in 1998, comprises 2 phases. The first phase of the capital campaign resulted in the opening of Planned Parenthood’s new flagship medical clinic, the South Austin Clinic, in 2004. The South Austin Clinic currently provides high-quality affordable health care to more than 9,000 of Planned Parenthood’s 26,000 clients served in Austin each year.
The second phase of the campaign will result in the opening of a new Education, Advocacy, and Administration Building, adjacent to the South Austin Clinic. The official opening of the new Education, Advocacy, and Administration building will be celebrated on Monday, October 22, 2007 with a ribbon-cutting and reception with Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, elected officials, lead donors, and community members.
The new Education, Advocacy, and Administration Building will host a library of educational resources for parents, educators and other community members seeking medically- accurate, age-appropriate sexuality education, and multiple community rooms for health educators, teen peer educators, and other Planned Parenthood volunteers to meet and attend workshops and other activities.
“For nearly 70 years, Planned Parenthood has been providing valuable health education and services in Austin,” stated Ken Lambrecht, CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Texas Capital Region. “With our flagship South Austin Clinic and new Education, Advocacy, and Administration Building, Planned Parenthood is well-positioned to continue to play a key role in keeping Austin healthy and informed to make decisions based on accurate, scientifically-based health education.”
Robbie Ausley, Co-Chair of The Choice Project Capital Campaign with her husband Tom Ausley, stated, “Most Planned Parenthood clients are uninsured, live paycheck to paycheck, and struggle to pay for their health care. The successful completion of the capital campaign means that Planned Parenthood can continue to focus on providing affordable, high-quality health care to men, women, and adolescents in Austin for many generations, strengthening our families as well as our community. I am extremely grateful for such widespread support for this campaign and the generosity and compassion exhibited by so many members of this community.”
Planned Parenthood is the nation's leading and most trusted sexual and reproductive health care provider. Planned Parenthood of the Texas Capital Region's three non-profit clinics in Austin provide high-quality reproductive and preventive health care to more than 26,000 Central Texans each year.
