Portland, OR - Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette (PPCW) is pleased to announce the construction of a new health center that will open in McMinnville in early fall 2007. The new site is expected to serve over 2,000 patients each year.

“There is a huge need for affordable women’s health care and family planning services throughout Oregon and we are delighted that we will soon be able to offer services in Yamhill County,” stated David Greenberg, PPCW President and CEO. Yamhill County is the only county in Oregon where county health clinics do not offer family planning services.

The expansion to McMinnville is part of Planned Parenthood’s goal to serve more communities in Oregon, particularly areas outside of Portland. Currently, PPCW operates health centers in Portland, Gresham, Beaverton, Clackamas, Bend, Salem and SW Washington. After a careful analysis of Yamhill County, including conversations with other major family planning providers such as Virginia Garcia, PPCW determined that there is need for additional family planning and women’s health care services in the region.

The new health center will serve a tri-county, rural and coastal region home to approximately 20,000 women in need of contraceptive services and supplies, including 5,550 women living under 185% FPL. The new site will provide a wide range of low-cost sexual and reproductive health care services, including:

  • Contraceptive services and supplies,
  • Emergency contraception,
  • Annual gynecological check-ups; breast exams, pelvic exams, and cervical cancer detection and treatment,
  • Testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases,
  • Pregnancy testing and options counseling; and
  • Referral for prenatal care, parenting and adoption.
  • Abortion care will not be provided at this time.

PPCW expects to open the new site in the early fall. In the meantime, patients may obtain information and directions to our other locations by checking the PPCW website at www.ppcw.org or by calling (800) 230-PLAN. Patients may also obtain birth control and emergency contraception on-line at www.ppcw.org.
