TWIN FALLS—Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest is teaming up with the Boise affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure to offer free breast cancer screenings on Friday, June 17th at the Planned Parenthood Health Center in Twin Falls.  Funds are also being made available to assist women needing additional screenings beyond their initial exam.

Breast cancer is the second most common form of cancer in women and is the number one cause of cancer death in Hispanic women.  Approximately one in eight American women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Over 40,000 American women die of breast cancer each year.

Planned Parenthood’s “One Stop” traveling licensed medical team began offering the exams at the Twin Falls Planned Parenthood health center in April 2010.  Every few months, the health center schedules special time for patients to receive free exams.  In addition to June 17th, the service will also be offered on August 19th.  It the eighth year Planned Parenthood has offered free breast exams with the help of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  The “One Stop” also includes a voucher system to financially assist uninsured women who are identified as needing an ultrasound, mammogram, or second opinion.

“We’re always proud to work with Susan G. Komen for the Cure,” said Rebecca Poedy, Vice President of External Affairs for Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest. “Working together we are able to provide this vital screening to women who may not have access in Idaho.  Both agencies work extremely hard to make health care more accessible to Idaho women.”

The next free screenings will be offered on Friday, June 17th between 11am and noon at the Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest health center at 200 2nd Avenue N and Gooding Street.   Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. Appointments can be made by calling (208) 734-9955.
