Yakima – As part of its recognition of National HIV Testing Day on June 27th, Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho (PPGWNI) will be offering free HIV testing at Yakima County Health Centers in Yakima, located at 1117 Tieton Drive, and Sunnyside, located at 2934 Covey Lane.

With Yakima County’s recent low ranking as one of the most unhealthy counties (32nd out of 39 counties), Planned Parenthood encourages people to make healthy, lifelong decisions. As part of a grant through the federal Title X program, PPGWNI is able to offer these free tests.

“Offering free testing is an important way for us to increase access to care and promote an awareness of HIV prevention in our communities,” said Anna Franks, President and CEO of PPGWNI. “It’s important for people to know their health status, and offering free tests reduces any cost barriers that may prevent someone from receiving a test that could save a life.”

In 2010, an estimated 40,000 clients will seek services at PPGWNI. The Yakima Health Center will have its free HIV tests on Friday, June 25th. The Sunnyside Health Center will offer free HIV testing on Monday, June 28th. Scheduled appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are always welcome. Appointments can be made by calling 1-866-904-7721, or online by visiting ppgwni.org.
